Homework Policy
Homework is due on the first school day of the week (Monday when applicable). Check your child’s folder on Monday’s for all new homework assignments and notices. I will send out a letter detailing homework expectations with the first homework in the coming week.
Homework incentives are earned by students who have completed their homework assignments in full. Students who have not earned for that week/s will make up the missing work during this time/s.

Homework Change after the New Year:
Reading Comprehension packets will be coming home bi weekly. These packets have skill practice that I have been teaching in third grade this year. Students have learned how to go back into the text and find evidence for their answers. They also have been working on answering the open ended questions using complete sentences and details from the text. These packets are essential practice to help prepare them for the SBAC testing that students will be taking later in the school year.
On alternate weeks students will be given a math word problem to solve. These new requirements are in addition to the reading log and math facts for homework weekly.
Reading Homework:
Students will bring home leveled books to and from school daily. A reading log will be recorded for homework. Students are expected to be reading for 100 minutes a week (i.e. 20 minutes 5x per week). This allows families flexibility with busy after school schedules. The reading log is to stay in the book baggie and come to and from school daily.
Math Homework:
Students will practice math facts on xtramath.org three times a week to build fact fluency. A detailed report will be emailed to me to track your child’s progress.
Please note: If I determine the effort on math facts is below your child’s ability they will be required to practice during Fun Friday before being able to participate.
No internet access? No worries, a paper practice will be sent home in lieu of the online practice. Please contact me if you need the paper practice flash cards and math log.
Second Step:
Periodically your child will come home with Second Step Homework.
